The Scientific Method and Errors in Reasoning
It is important to understand the inherent errors in reasoning which could occur during scientific discovery and how this can produce inaccurate or biased conclusions. This allows us to look critically at scientific information, and allows researchers to overcome these errors.

In our first two modules, we broke down exactly what the scientific method is and its history. In this next module, we'll take a critical look at errors in scientific reasoning which could result in biased outcomes. We also discuss ways to overcome these errors using the scientific method as our foundation.

There are 5 learning goals we have for you over the course of this module:
1
Selective Observation
Understand selective observation and where it shows up.
4
Resistance to Change
Understand resistance to change and where it shows up.
2

Overgeneralization
Understand overgeneralization and where it shows up.
5
Overcome Errors in Reasoning
Describe how the scientific method is able to overcome errors in reasoning.
3

Illogical Reasoning
Understand illogical reasoning and where it shows up.
